The Surrattsville High School Foundation, Inc. (IRS Identification Number 52-2224546) is a Maryland not-for-profit corporation that was incorporated in March 2000 and found to be tax-exempt by the IRS in June 2000. The purpose of the Foundation is to support the Surrattsville High School community, engaging in such activities as granting scholarships, making gifts to the School, coordinating projects to benefit the School, hold events of interest to the Surratts community and presenting regular achievement awards to alumni and other members of the school community.
In the year since its inception and under leadership of Henry Smith ('71) the Foundation has made significant achievements, including the following:
- First Annual Golf Outing
- First All Class Reunion
- First Annual All Classes Motorcycle (and Car) Ride
- First All Classes Sock Hop
- Alumni Directory
- Alumni Outreach Committee (Surratt's Alumni Association)
- General Fund
- Principals/Faculty/Staff Memory Fund (to benefit current students)
- Website (www.surrattsville.org)
- Archival Efforts and Achievement Award
2001 Activities have included the following:
- Working to acquire US Government surplus computers for the school
- Planning for the Annual Golf Outing
- Planning for the Annual Motorcycle Ride (6/24/01)
- Assisting individual Classes with reunion plans
- Planning an annual fund raising event
- Presenting the annual Achievement Awards
- Granting the first Foundation scholarships to graduating students
- Making first grants from the Principals/Faculty/Staff Memory Fund
- Continuing the work of the Alumni Outreach Committee
- Establishing Outreach Committees for students, faculty, parents and the community
- Beautify the Backyard Project
2002 Activities will include the following:
- Planning for the Annual Golf Outing (6/28/02)
- Planning Surrattstock - reunion of the bands (6/29/02)
- Planning for the Annual Motorcycle Ride (6/30/01)
- Assisting individual Classes with reunion plans
- Presenting the annual Achievement Awards
